Lately there has been some interest in having an alternative character.

Threshold is open to do that if you would like. Some already have an alt and many don't. However, the option is there for anyone that wants to try a different direction in the campaign.

OOC: Is there anything (besides underground exploration) that you guys wanted to do before leaving The Ruins of Rivercliff Keep (that's the official name of the fort)?

After escorting Belwar and Himo to the Keep's chapel Valen and Zurn stepped through the door into the night spring air. It was still early in the season and only a few days ago there was a dusting of snow on the ground. The breeze coming off of the hips of the mountains still had winters chill and one could still see his breath flowing forth in a dissipating fog.

The warmth that the chapel offered could not only be felt on the skin but in one's spirit as it was comforting to be in a place that was finally familiar. Zurn felt as he was starting to come into his own taking an active roll in something larger in himself. He wondered if Valen, a devotee to Ehlonna, also felt the same way. Although the two were learned in differing doctrines they were still bound by the the same divine grace. Zurn felt as if he was becoming more familiar with Valen because of that or because of the recent trials of the wild. Maybe it was both.

As the two walk into the courtyard Zurn says, "Aye, Valen it'n be a good thing dat Belwar and Himo be findin' peace in th' arms of Ehlonna and be right in the head. I hafta admit, afta being da wild like we were those cots that those two be sleepin' on look fit for a king in me eyes!" Zurn laughed.

"Anyway, do y'thinkin' we should be findin' Arlen and the kitty cat or head back to the capn's to be completin' the report? I get the sense dat Arlen is a touch scatty but not much dangerous and dat the cap'n is twitchin' to be hearin' news from our travels. Waddya think?"

OOC: this occurs just after the "Waiting for Kyle" thread.

Maal was making her way back to the Thornhedge for an ale. Getting annoyed at the bustling and bumping of all the people she looks up for an easier route to her destination. In her analysis Maal notices Stormhunter (a full head and shoulders above everyone else) caught in the same confusion except he's coming towards her. He looks somewhat frustrated but smiles kindly to everyone in the way of his large frame.

He looks out over the crowd and in a booming voice shouts, "MAAL!! I HAVE TO SPEAK WITH YOU!! I'VE FINISHED YOUR ITEM! WOULD YOU LIKE TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT?!"

The people on the Angelhawk, frightened by the loud half-orcs voice, cleared a path for him so that he might cross and speak with whoever it was he was shouting at.

The recent events had lent themselves to massive amounts of confusion for T'Riad. "What happened after entering the room of bones in the underground? How did I end up on a hill overlooking a town? How did I apparently die fighting the priest only to find that I'm very much alive? Or am I? Now I'm walking along athe beach with Garbhan, Erinalia, and two natives. Answers would be nice. If not answers then some bearings." T'Riad thought.

T'Riad was carrying some bananas for the walk. The fruits of this place were strange but quite tasty. T'Riad had gotten used to the exotic foods found on the island and bananas had become a favorite of his. He discovered that if you mashe them up with some coconut milk it makes quite an interesting beverage.

The walk so far had been very quiet. The strangeness of the two natives asking for us to see 'Orca' had put T'Riad on edge. So to still his mind he just listened to the waves kissing the sand.

At length when he had sorted the recent events he approached Erinalia, "Would you like a banana?" he said in the elven language. "Finally I have a chance to talk with you. What do you remember happening after we entered the room with the bones in the underground?"

T'Riad decided that he would offer up his experience  so that it might make Erinalia more at ease to share her experience if she did indeed have one. "I found myself on a hill overlooking a town. A hobgoblin priest then came upon me and we started to talk. Eventually we came to blows and I could feel myself dying. Even my vision faded to darkness. Yet here I am talking to you now. I might have been a dream or a vision but it seemed all too real. I can still feel the pain of the priests black magic exploding into my chest."

T'Riad paused and looked for any reaction and then continued, "Then I woke on the beach with Garbhan and you know the rest. So if you would tell me, what happened to you?"

Zurn Darkbrew

Zurn grew up in the sleepy farming town of Gorna. With Zurn not yet born his parents, Rurik (father) and Dagnia (mother) had left Derkenwold for reasons never spoken of. They had taken residence at Old Farmer Zurn?s when the dwarven couple could no longer travel due to Dagnia?s pregnancy. Zurn was born and was named after the old farmer in gratitude for the old man?s kindness in taking them in and giving them a home. They decided to leave their clan name behind them and take up the name of Rurik?s esteemed craft, the brewing of Dwarven Dark.

Zurn always felt out of place amongst the humans of the town. He knew he was different and as the other children grew tall, he grew a beard.  So because of his differences he spent much of his time in the fields talking to the plants that he tended and had come to regard them as his friends.

Soon he became enraptured with that which made plants grow and become strong. He decided to visit the local priests of Ehlonna to learn more about how to become closer with trees and plants. Zurn wanted very much to become a priest  but knew that his father would need him to tend the fields and to brew the various ale?s that had become a trade good for Gorna. One priest approached Rurik and Dagnia one afternoon and asked to take Zurn on as an acolyte of the priesthood. The priest explained that Zurn would then be able to take his skills to the fields and enable the crops to grow as best they could.

So it was then that Zurn became a priest of Ehlonna never having known the underground life of his kin.

Zurn has long brown hair and a form fitting beard with no mustache. He wears a hunter green cloak with silver embroidered leaves along the hem. His eyes are green with tiny gold flecks that glimmer when the light hits them just right. The scales of his mail are leaves that intertwine to create his armor.

He?s generally soft spoken and feels a bit awkward around others having spent his childhood years talking to plants and tending crops. He likes to eat apples and fresh fruit and LOVES to drink good Dwarven Dark?especially if he brewed it.

Duthash Zinnyas Voldyn (May 7th)

After making sure that Dale was taken care of at the Thornhedge, Ashe, Maccabeus, and Wolf made their way through town to Ashe's house. Maccabeus could see a sign hanging above the entry door carved with the Tree of Life and gilded in gold. Behind Ashe's house was a tall cliff at the top of which was the fantastic Goldleaf Trees from which the bronzsap was harvested. The trees were shining in the light given off by the Spike of Fire across the Fogveil. Beyond that on the highest point of Threshold was a massive stone statue looking out over the town as an eternal guard.

Ashe takes out his key and opens his door. Before walking in he says to Maccabeus, "My place has been busy as of late. It'll be nice to have a quiet evening...well, sort of."

He opens the door and before walking in Maccabeus could smell a blended recipe of what he might guess to be dozens of herbs. Ashe quickly lights a few lanterns and says, "Can I get you something to drink or eat? I know that we just stuffed ourselves but I figured I'd offer just in case."

Maccabeus looked around and could see what seemd to be hundreds of jars on several shelves filled with herbs and salves. Also in the room were 5 beds neatly made. On the far end of the room on the same wall as the shelves was a doorway to another section of the house.

Jarmok could hear someone coming around to the back of the Council House. It was still very early and usually Jarmok would just be getting up for his morning walk. This past night was different though. He was on guard of a prisoner held within the rocky walls of the town jailhouse.

Instinctively Jarmok tensed and waited for whoever it was. He was tucked away in the bushes and even the greatest of trackers would have difficulty seeing him in there. Then he heard a whisper, "Jarmok, are you still here?" Jarmok could see Julius round the corner of the small stone prison. He was looking inquistively all around.

Zurn looked about in confusion. Himo had defiantly and brazenly marched off into the woods. It was clear to Zurn that wasn't the wisest move. Actions in desperation rarely are. "Our options are getting thin", Zurn thought. "Beloved had done what she could to help us but perhaps we didn't ask the right questions. Or perhaps we overlooked the widom in her words. Whatever the case we need to do something. Time is sprinting away from us".

Zurn figured that he'd ask, "So, does anyone hava any ideas on'a what we ought to be doin' aboot our situation? We gots to be doin' sumthin' fas' or Himo and Belwar'll be...well ya know."

OOC: this takes place after 'A Ring within the Brambles'

After deciding to go back to town Maccabeus, Dale and Ashe pass back through the bramble maze and back into the great flowered hall of the Ring of Mists. The carcass of the deer that Wolf has caught is still there partially torn and bloody. Ashe says, "Maccabeus, are you going to bring that meal with you to Threshold along with your wolf friend? I'm certain it will still be good when you return tonight. Has the wolf seen the town yet? I wouldn't want him to frighten the townsfolk. Then again, the locals here seem to understand wolves and accept them. It's the outsiders that concern me. Anyway, it'll be nice to get back to town. My feet are a bit weary and the early Sythus mountain air can still put a chill into me bones. We'll take the back route that we came in so as to keep the ease of the farmers. Dale, no need to swim the river this time...heh!"

House Rules / Human Skills
« on: November 04, 2005, 01:02:25 PM »
I've given it some thought and I've decided (based on discussions in the past) that Humans in my Campaign World will not suffer the point penalty of Cross-Class skills. In other words humans will not pay double the skill points for skills that aren't allowed by their class.

Anyone who has a human in my Campaign right now that has taken cross-class skills please feel free to make the proper adjustments.

Ashe saunters into the common room of the Thornhedge Inn. It is partially occupied with various patrons all of which are intent on their own business. Sitting at the Protectorates usual table is Dale sipping an ale and reaching down to his side with a little bit of food. No one seems to notice this much less care. Ashe approaches Dale and says, "Dale, sorry I was delayed but...well, you understand. Anyway, Maal is doing fine now. If you want to go then we should go now. I've been quite anxious for something like this for a very long time. Are you ready?"
