"Well met Svenia.  I'm Dale and we're a newly formed protectorate of Threshold.  Julius formed our group and with his blessing we have come here to attack these Xan Thakian troops and try to find you.   You are welcome to as much water as you like.   Would you like some food too?"  Dale quickly unties the leather cord that binds his water skin to his belt and hands the water to the halfling.   Dale then continues speaking by introducing the rest of the protectorate to Svania.

Once the introductions are over Dale asks "Were there many soldiers or apprentices with the dark priest?"

"If we're not in agreement, about exploring the fort, we should go back."

Dale looks carefully at Ragnor.   "We won't be picking a fight with Severen... yet.   I'm not convinced that he has anything to do we these so called "blasphemers".   Maal is right. We should follow his activities first.   Your actions are the very actions that you despise about the Xan Thakians.   Kill now, ask questions later, is a bad way to live.   Trust me I've been there.  I want to hang Severen as much as you do, but not until he does something wrong first.

Lets pick over the bodies and then lets get out of here."   Dale strides towards the nearest corpse and grabs his belt pouch.   Then he moves to the next corpse ad combines the contents of his pouch with the first one.   He does this until no pouches are left.   He then hands the money to Sayer and says, "You did well today.  I've never seen a braver act than what you did today.    Since you're a scholar, why don't you tally this money up and dole it out equally when we get back to town."

"Sayer, you aren't equipped for battle.  No armor, no training, not even a weapon.   Throwing yourself into battle like that showed more courage than the rest of us combined.   You did well."

Dale takes the 4 money pouches and puts them in his pack.  Looking at Jarmok and Mall, Dale asks "Should we gather up their weapons and armor to destroy them, so that they can't be used again?   They are so far from Xan Thakos that they must be worth a lot to them.   If we had a pack mule we could take the stuff back to Threshold and arm a militia."

As if noticing Kits tears for the first time, Dale looks to the young girl and puts a hand on her shoulder.   "We will lass.   Just not today.  We need everyone together to fight this evil.   You are exhausted and nearly spent.  Lets go back to Threshold and try again tomorrow."

Dale slowly looks around the group and takes a deep breath to help relax the tension of the situation.   "Sayer's right.  We need to make a decision.   Whatever we do though, we should do it together.   Our strength comes from working together.   We can not divide.  We will be too weak for both tasks at hand.

"I have some more questions for the councillors." Dale looks specifically to Svenia and asks, "Did you know these priests?   Were they experienced leaders of their churches?   They were wearing armor, expecting battle.  Did they fall easily or were they overwhelmed?   Did the dark priest use his powers on them?  What did this dark priest look like.  Did he have a name?"

Himo, What on earth did you just write?  I'm not down with your lingo.  Could you please translate that into english?  Thanks. :?

"Jarmok, we need a better plan than that.   What happens if you guys get into trouble and we aren't there to help you?  We should all go together.  Or at the very least have half of us cover the cave with bows while the other half goes into the fort.  That way Vervishkuk can't escape out the back door."

"Kit, what's wrong?  Are you hurt?"   Dale kneels next to her trying to ascertain the extent of her injury.

"If we are all in and only if we are all in on this, I suggest we split our forces again.   Kit, Laren and Ragnor should go to the cave and enter the fort that way.    You will also be able to prevent Vervishkuk from running out the back door.   Jarmok, Maal, and myself will enter the fort from that door over there.   We will be able to attack from two sides at once if we are lucky.

"If possible, we should try to coordinate our attacks.   If Jarmok, Maal and I start the battle, the three of you can fire your bows at the big bastard from a distance.   If you wait hidden at the edge of  the cave, you will hear the battle and the can rush in to join us.  Hopefully, we can take him by surprise again.  The only variable is the dark priest and any other lackeys that they might be hiding.

"Sayer, you can guard the councillors and keep them safe.  If you see any more troops coming, you can warn us and escort the councillors to Threshold.   If we get captured, get back to Threshold and get us a rescue.   Ashe and Julius would know what to do.

"Does anyone have any questions or better ideas?"   Dale looks at each member of the group, even the councillors.

"My reasoning is that it will take all of us to bring that monstrosity down.   If we all go in together, we can be bottled up and killed off one at a time.  Meanwhile we will only be able to bring one or two of us to fight Vervishkuk at once.   If we attack him from two sides we can catch him in a deadly cross fire and all of us can get in on the kill.

"There is a great risk to my plan.  By dividing, we can be isolated and attacked.   Thereby making it easier for Vervishkuk and his compatriots to kill us.  Its a risk.   But I think we're in big trouble if we all go in together.   Do you have any better ideas?"  Dale looks at the young girl and waits patiently for a reply.

Dale extends his hand towards Kit and offers to help pull her up again.   "Are you sure you're up for this?"  Without waiting for a reply Dale looks around.   "Is there anyone else who isn't up for going into the fort?"

Dale glares back at Jarmok, not relenting.    After a moment of intense tension, Dale takes a deep breath as if to check his temper.   "Jarmok....  Relax...    We're in this together.     You make some good points.   But understand this:  If we don't go into the fort together, you could die too. If we hunt, we hunt together or we die.   If we rescue, we rescue together or we die.   Whether "Vishcook" is down in the fort or in the river he is still out there.   He will come after us and it will take all of us to kill him!

"For your information I'm not blood thirsty.  I'm simply reluctant to leave an enemy at my back.   I misunderstood you earlier.  You didn't speak very clearly.    Its sometimes hard to understand what you are telling us."

Edited: Johan and I posted at the same time earlier.  Johan's post would have dictated a different response than what Dale gave earlier.

Dale takes his crossbow and fires a bolt into the door of the keep.

Once he has Jarmok's attention, he looks at him and says in a very quiet subdued, yet cold tone, "Who made you king?   You don't care what anyone else has to say?   You're gonna take Kit underground when she can't even stand?   What are you thinking?!!!!   Who's going to rescue your sorry hide when you get overwhelmed down there?  Stop being an ignorant jackass Jarmok!

"We won this battle," Dale sweeps his hand around the courtyard of the fort, "by making a plan and working together.   You're being an impatient little brat and your plan has some serious flaws in it.    You say I'm bloodthirsty?   You're the one charging back into to battle!   Besides,    who gave you the right to order us what to do?"

When I wrote this I hadn't yet read the OOC where everyone agreed to Jarmok's plan.    Dale is amazed at how stupid Jarmok is and I as a player was taken compleeeetely by surprise by his actions.  Dale also feels personally affronted by Jarmok and he doesn't know what he did to irritate him so much.     Personally I wasn't thrilled with Johan forcing everyone else's hand (remember I had not read the last few posts of the Lets Work Together OOC)

I am not upset with Johan in any way.   I won't edit this post for now, because I do think it makes for good roleplaying.   If it turns out to be too controversial maybe I'll change it later.   Sorry for the huge OOC in the middle of the ICD.

Dale looks at the young girl with sympathy in his eyes.  "I'm not suggesting that you abandon her.   I am suggesting that you make a wise plan before walking into a potential slaughter house.     Just walking in leaving half of us here is madness.   Besides, Jarmok said he was going to run away the moment he ran into any trouble.   How does that help you save your friend?

Dale shakes his head in frustration and strides purposefully towards the keep.    As he gets to the keep, rather than heading inside, he climbs the stairs to the top of the keep.

Once upon the top of the fortress, he heads to a battlement that faces upstream.   From there, he kneels beneath the battlement to keep watch for reinforcements of dark cloaks.

As he waits there he reviews the exchange between himself and Jarmok in his mind, over and over again.   Feeling badly about offending Maal, Dale begins to think of how to apologize to her, not that it will matter at this point.

While keeping watch on the forest, Dale pulls out Xorn and feeds the toad while petting it.   "What would you have done?"  Dale looks at the toad forlornly hoping for an answer from his former master.

I like your ideas here.  Have you considered allowing half elves to gain an extra feat at first level?
