Sayer turned slowly to face Laren.  "This is what I see," he said, pointing to the three stones closest to where the halfling stood:

"These three stones are your origin.  It is from where you have come; it is where you are now.  When we connect the stones," Sayer said, tracing an imaginary line over the stones with his finger, "we have a triangle."

"Moon, earth, earth," Sayer continued.  "All diminutive runes.  Among its many meanings, the moon is the rune of emotion.  There is an anchoring  (right) angle between the moon and the two earths, so this emotion is strong.  Because the moon rune is diminutive, then I would think that the emotion itself is not necessarily welcomed.  I interpret this as the acquisition of a troubling emotion within your recent past.

"The earth rune is symbolic of the physical world, governing health and wealth.  We have two such runes, and they are both diminutive.  A diminutive earth rune typically means a reduction or a loss --" Sayer suddenly fell silent.  He slowly cocked his head as he studied the stones.  "Someone you know recently took ill," he whispered.

Sayer had returned his attention to the table after Laren mentioned Kit's injury.  The earth rune and moon rune were near to each other, indicating an emotional closeness.  Sayer was formulating a tactful inquiry about Laren's relationship with Kit when Laren abruptly and noisily tumbled out from his chair to the ground.

Sayer stared stupidly at Laren.  Sayer was surprised by this sudden action and was alarmed by the force that Laren's head had his the wooden floor.  Before Sayer could speak, he became even more surprised by the halfling's sudden recovery to his feet.  As Laren clutched his chest and struggled for air, Sayer reached a hand out to him but immediately withdrew it in startled surprise as Laren growled.

It was then that the answer clicked in Sayer's mind.  The Eye.  The runestones.  The reading.  "Laren, you knew the person who possessed the Eye of Portence.  You knew this person.  The Eye was given to you by this person.  Someone close to you."

Garbh?n slowly opened his eyes and stared at the night sky.  He remembered being on a battlefield, and he remembered being hit by crossbow bolts.  That seemed to have happened so long ago.

He sat up, holding his head.  "Is it over?  Did we win?" he asked, looking around.

Garbh?n sat with a confused expression.  "Escaped?"  He tried to stand, but the soreness from his wounds kept him seated.  He glanced around at the setting.  "Where are we?"

Garbh?n made no motion or spoke no words of comfort to Erinalia.  He took notice of the other individuals standing nearby.  "Dariooq.  Scale.  Help me to my feet.  Azarian, where are we?"

Garbh?n nodded his thanks to the two island barbarians and moved unsteadily to Erinalia.  His combat wounds were partially healed, and the effects of the poison from the crossbow bolts still weakened him.

"Come, Erin.  Come to your feet," he spoke gently to her as he reached for her elbow.

House Rules / Character death

Characters may lose hit points up to negative [their constitution score].  Thus a character with a 16 CON will die if they sustain damage that puts them at -16 hit points or more.

Quote from: himodid we ask for a task force or something to help threshhold besides us....?
We are the task force.  That's it.  That's all that Threshold has. :)

Quote from: MattI think the only thing that we can really ask for is equipment... better armor, weapons... Healing supplies...
Is this not the case now?  This player does not recall the initial negotiated terms of employment for the protectors of Threshold.  Are you (plural) paying for healing?  Are you paying for lodging?  Are you paying for meals?  Are you paying for equipment and repairs?

If we need to renegotiate the terms of employment, then now may be a good time to speak up.  If we're being supplied with everything that we need at no charge, then we're doing pretty well in that respect. :)

Sayer is currently at the council meeting.  Were there any questions that needed to be asked?

Sayer, being the manipulative advisor that he is, was considering planting seeds of stronger support for the group.

I will begin my comment with a caveat: I have not read this thread, but I'm curious as to why it was edited in such a way.

Out of Character Discussions / Hit point HELL
February 19, 2006, 01:12:38 PM
So, Garbh?n leveled up, and I am reminded why I hate rolling hit points for a character.

Following Dray's rules, I rolled 2d10, taking the better result.  I was hopeful for rolling well.

I rolled a 4, and a 1.

Remembering the compassion that Dray demonstrated when Johan rolled a 1 as part of his hit point leveling, I rerolled my 1...

...and was left with a 2.

So, at third level, my best roll was a gain of four additional hit points, plus my CON bonus.  It's not a terrible gain, but it's not a satisfying gain either.
