Title: Dance the Night away...
Post by: Johan on June 13, 2005, 01:45:34 PM
Beachstock, at the end of session 6:

After having a fairly long conversation regarding logisitcs of the following day, Mel jumps up and accosts the attractive young human who's been flirting with Elberron.

"Hey..." His eyes wide with wonder. "I just realized that you said that your name was Trinity. Are you the Trinity? The one who everybody is talking about?

Mel was relieved to be heading back towards the crowd at the fires; images of militant humanoids from the deep surfacing from beneath the murky surface of the bay waters plagued his imagination; he felt decidedly as though he was being watched. He scanned the beach and the surrounding berms for anything that might be out of the ordinary, but found nothing there. But it's often the fox that you don't see that you need be careful of. He reminded himself of the old farmer's addage, oft repeated by that lovely brunette with the coconut cream pies.

This night had been full of odd happenings, Amallia's friend Trinity was among the first - he had rather thought that there would be a reason for the two to meet, but apparently not. Then there was Elberrin's behavior - Mel would have to talk to Elb in private to understand that and how it pertained to this Gage fellow. This nobody appeared from nowhere, having left his sense of humor at home (another human who doesn't want to have fun - Mel noted sardonically to himself that a lack of sense of humor must have been one of the requirements for humans to take this trip), what was it he said to Trinity? The ranger isn't going to like this? What ranger?

Oddness is certainly afoot, he thought suspiciously. He wished silently that he had some of his co-workers on-hand to help him figure out exactly what was going on. He could use someone to anchor him as he tended to get easily distracted, and there were certainly things going on here that begged his curiosity.

He plodded back towards the festivities. Hopefully, there would be distractions there for his over-active imagination.

"Sure," she lowered her head to capture Mel's gaze. Smiling at him she asked, "You think you can stop talking long enough to dance?"

She giggled, kicked water at him and ran up ahead.

"Hard work? Nahh...you creep around in the dark and get a bead on what's ahead. Sharp eyes, alert ears, and light feet; that's all." Mel looked around and noted that they had wandered a bit beyond his comfort zone. "So what say we wander back to the loud fire and enjoy the festivities?"

"Isn't being a scout hard work?" she asked as she reached down and grabbed a hand full of water, and patted her face with it.

"Elberrin said?" Mel echoed Trinity. He looked to the ground with a grin creeping across his face. "*Oh!*" He feigned a body-wracking sob, and wiped an imaginary tear from his right eye. "My boy told a joke! I'm so proud." He looked up and laughed. "Seriously, Elberrin must have been pulling someone's leg. Probably mine - long term. I'll have to remember to volunteer him for something." His eyes shifted shrewdly. "But no, I spent my life avoiding the trouble of labor - and cooking ranks right up there with the most onerous of toils, to me, at least. I'd rather live my life than let my life live me."

"Oh my, hadn't heard of that one," she said while trying not to make a face of disgust. "Now my friend Penny, she's a halfling in Dullstrand, she makes a fantastic squirrel stew you got to try. But surly you jest, Elberrin says, and I quote, you are a culinary genius, why are you so humble about it?" she asked.

Mel's head snapped around and his eyes bugged out a little under furrowed brows. "Ha! You've been lied to I'm afraid." He said. "I don't have the attention span to be a decent cook. I've been known to burn air! But, my favorite dish to eat would be canary and earthworm casserole." He eyes darted from side to side furtively; he took the opportunity to scan the area to see if there were any shadows lurking nearby.

"Oh, well yes, I had been in Dullstrand all my life until now. My mother left town right after I was born. My father is one of Outpost cooks, he and my aunt raised me. Hey!" Trinity suddenly said with such a surprise that Mel looked about to see if he was getting jumped from behind.

Elberrin stands as Gage does. (see a few posts ago) While looking away he snidely says, "Gee, I guess we were inturrupting huh?" He then looked at him, and shifted his tone back to his usual friendly one,  "I suppose I will head back to the festivities. Will you be joining us again, or have you another engagement?"

Gage seemed taken aback, he made another quick look to where Trinity and Mel were walking away and then returned Elberrin's gaze.

"Actually Elberrin, let's go get a drink, I would like to talk to you a moment if I could?" he asked in a casual tone.

OOC: The Elberrin/Gage aspect of this story now goes to the "Elberrin and Gage, Drinking Buddies" thread, as once again Elberrin and Gage have broken away from Mel & Trinity.

"Well, I would think that given all the people here it would be an expansive social, but beyond beachstock, not only am I unable to find someone who's having fun, I can't even find someone who wants to have fun!"

He shook his head in a melencholy sort of way. "It's like Elberron is so sad, that he came here to die. T'Riad can be happy if you make him be, this new fellow Garbvan is so stead-fast in not being happy, you'd think that happiness was a disease. Then there's this chick Erin. You say "boo" to her and it's like she's ready to keel over and die of embarrasment! And don't get me started on the NPC's; other than Ivan, they're all "well, I don't know, what do *you* think I should have for breakfast?"

"This is the sorriest lot of merphilukes I've ever lived with, and I've lived with some real pips. That's why I like Grush; he just is what he is. Did you grow up in Dullstrand?"

"Um, I have no idea what either of those are. Which one are you?" She clasped her hands behind her back. She stopped walking again and was moving her feet around in the ankle-deep surf.

"All right, all right." Mel protested. "If it means that much, then I'll condense it: Do you find yourself more in an isolated exile, or an expansive social?"

"Note the punctuation? Are you writing in some book? Where is your ink well? How can I note punctuation with the spoken word? I noted each break in your rythyn of speech and noted each question mark."

She suddenly reach over to Mel and started mocking a search upon his person.

"I see no quill, you therefore must surrender that those were indeed all questions."

Mel noticed that Trinity smelled of cinnamon.

"Heh - You don't get out much, do you?" Mel teased her.

"So what, are there no other companions for you here - no one that you enjoy spending time with; no siblings, no friends that came from Dullstrand with you? And please note the punctuation - that's all rolled into one question!  :D

Trinity listened to Mel. She had the habit, Mel noted, of looking into his eyes when he spoke. Something that many humans didn't do, instead talking over and beyond him because of his height.

"The most amazing thing. Pelor, I wouldn't know where to begin. As we sailed here I saw a double rainbow over open water. When we arrived, I watched a band of brave adventurers battle creatures evil from the deep.Yesterday I walked through a cliff wall that wasn't really there. Then I flew a giant eagle from the top of Lost Souls falls back to the beach." She said the last part as she spun in a circle, her feet making small splashes in the water.

"But to be honest, my happiest moment is occuring right now."

Trinity bit her lip and slightly flushed, and walked forward once again.

"I count four questions!" Mel laughed gleefully as she came to the realization that she had asked so many questions in rapid succession.

"Seriously, though," he said sobering, "although I've never met Beige, I've been accompanying Elberrin for a week, and I sailed with him for four months. In all that time I've never heard him more than whisper. So, yes, he is behaving oddly. I also note the T'Riad was trying to impress more than ususal, and he's generally over at the loud fires, not at the quiet ones. I think he irritated that axe-nosed woman too."

"Now, another question for me...what's the most remarkable thing that you've seen since coming on this journey?"
Title: Dance the Night away...

"I have no idea what that was all about back there. Elberrin, Gage, myself and two others were with Ivellious yesterday. We all learned alot and seemed to get along fine," she said as she walked slowly.

She reached down and picked up a seashell. "Pretty heh?" she asked as she showed it to Mel. The light from the moon made it easy enough to see.

"Gage seemed mad back there didn't he? Now that I think on it, he was a little grumpy at times yesterday. While Elberrin on the other hand was really quiet and thoughtful, he seemed a little loud back there. Does he drink?"

She stopped mid-track and looked at Mel. "Wait a minute, that is so not like two questions right?"

"Oh no, I asked you about the shell too. This game is so unfair." She said, putting her lip out and pretending to be slighted.

Mel remained on alert, looking to and fro, trying to disguise an opportunity to look back over his shoulder to see the reactions of T, Elb, and this new fellow Gage. Elberrin clearly thought that Gage was more than another person; the little halfling filed away a mental note to talk to Elberrin about that in a more private moment. It seemed to Mel that this Gage fellow had some specific animosity towards him, but why that might be escaped him...for now.

"Oh, I'm officially a scout, I guess." he replied. "As to the difference, I think that rangers tend to have more structured instruction; they of course run the gammut from stuffy to not, but they're all 'Oh, the world needs me to protect it'. Scouts are varied too, but I'm just a small, nosey guy who can be really quiet when he wants to be. That makes a scout. I guess. As for whether or not that counts as three, yes it does count as four." Mel smiled mischievously.

"Let's see...how about why is everyone seeming to act so oddly when you're near?"

"There doesn't appear to be one up ahead, but a walk on the beach is nice." She said as she walked along side Mel.

"I didn't choose it I guess. It sort of chose me. I think right now, it's my only chance to break away from my father and the tedious life he has planned for me. My turn," she said with small laugh.

"Are you a scout? Or a Ranger? What's the difference? Does that count as three questions? I meant it as only one."

"That counts as my question?" Mel asked incredulously, pointedly ignoring Gage as the pair head off for a more refined area. "There's got to be a quiet fire where two people can become friends. So, what made you choose ranger as a profession?"

"Sure." Trin said as she happily stood up. "But that counts as your question."

"The name is Gage, and do you think your father would approve Trin?" Gage said with a slight smirk, poorly feigning the statement as an off-hand joke.

WTF?!? All day long, all they can say is "Mel, shut up. Mel, go away. Mel, shut up. Mel, can I talk? Mel, shut up. Mel, do you know how to be quiet? Mel, I'm over here trying to be sad, could you shut up for a moment? Mel, where's the beef? Mel, shut up. Mel, go away. Mel, don't you have anyone else to bother? Mel, I think I just saw a gem under the water, why don't you go have a look? Mel, shut up. Mel, stop talking, Mel, I'm not going to say this again (ya, right). Mel, shut up. Mel, go away. Mel, this looks like a trap, why don't you walk on in. Mel, go away. Mel, shut up. Mel, try this poison. Mel, shut up already. Mel, that's not a real song. Mel, look - a red dragon! Mel, stop talking. Mel, I'm going to poke my eardrums out if you don't stop.

Now here I am, trying my level-best to not bother any of them, and all they can do is follow me?!? Not that I blame them, but by Moradin's girdle, get a life already. It's not all about me, you know!

SENSE MOTIVE (Elb) SENSE MOTIVE (T) SENSE MOTIVE (Trin) SENSE MOTIVE (Gage) SENSE MOTIVE (GM)

"Hey!" Mel spoke as loudly as Elberrin had been. "This is the quiet fire! That one (where we left you) is the noisey fire!" Mel grabed a stone thrown in his general direction by the juggling monk, and standing yelled, "Everybody, throw a stone at the monk!" With that, Mel threw his stone back to T, not waiting for the (hopefully) hapless monk to be in position to catch it.

"I'm sorry, Glade, you and I will have to meet in the morning. Right now I'm playing a game of "Ask-a-question", and if you all don't mind, it's my turn to ask a question." The little halfling turned back to Trinity and asked, "Would you like to continue this conversation in a more simple place?."

T'Riad keeps up the juggling display and continues to watch Arnines facial expressions trying to figure out what she's looking at. He moves about to the beat of the music and as he juggles the stones (9 of them) he lightly tosses a stone to random people in the crowd. He shouts, "When I get to the opposite side of the fire toss the stones to me!". T'Riad moves around the fire combining his Katas with his dancing and juggles the stones as he collects them from the crowd. He continues to keep an eye on Arnine.

"What do you mean? Oh hey, there's Mel and Trinity, have you met Mel? C'mon over I'll introduce you! Hey Mel, slide over!" Elberrin appeared not to hear Gage.

"Mel has got some stories, let me tell you! Have you had any of that wine they've got over at the community tent? Grade A!" Elberrin herds Gage over to the stump where Mel and Trinity sat.

"Trin, you remember Gage, right? Mel, this is Gage, he's training with us under Ivellious." Elberrin glared hard at Mel during the intro, keeping his gaze grave, hoping that Mel picked up on the fact that this wasn't just a recreational introduction.

"What?" Gage he said looking around totally confused. "No, just standing on the beach is all." He said almost matching Elberrin's volume. He fidgeted, his body language betraying his nerves.

In a more hushed tone he asked, "What's that all about Elberrin?"

Trinity looked over at Mel and smiled at his puzzlement. "No, I have no girl at home. I like boys, halfling b..."

"You lose something?" From behind them they heard Elberrin shout. "I noticed you were looking around."

Mel and Trinity turned and could only see a shadow move in the darkness.

"Just enjoying the beach at night," he said as he reached him.

"Do you have a girl back home?" she asked, watching the falling sand.

Trinity raised her hand to her mouth and giggled some more.

"Well, first of all, I am not as young as you may think I am. A lot of people mistake me for a child as I am so petite," she paused and leveled her hand over her head and waved it over Mel's, accentuating the 6 inch difference, even though they both sat.

She laughed, "Well petite to at least Griznuqs anyway."

She continued on through Mel's obviously feigned hurt look. "I am 15 summers. I came over here on the Amistad with my father who is a cook in the kitchens. It is my hope to become a Ranger so I can get away from the dishwashing duty my grumpy father thinks is the only honest work suited for a woman."

There was a little angst in her voice, an element that returned her to moving the sand around with her big toe as she had spoke.

"Oh..." Mel responded, watching with great interest the precise foot placements of the young girl, ostensibly ensuring that they might not step upon some hazardous rock. "Well, it's always good to meet new people; to make new friends." Mel looked up to the sky, the stars winking down in that way that they have.

"How shall we get acquainted?" He asked smoothly. "I know! I'll ask a question, then you can ask me one! It'll be much like a game!" His eyes rolled playfully into his head as he asked, "Tell me, what brings you so far from home at such a tender age (are you really as young as you look)? What do you do here? How did you meet Amallia? How did you meet Elberr*I*n (I thought I heard something to that effect)? Elberrin's a nice guy, but he's a little old for his age, if you take my meaning (wink). Is it true that you rode an eagle all the way here from Dullstrand? Are you a bird tamer? Why are you laughing? Has anyone told you that you have a musical laugh? Do you play an instrument? Do you sing?"

Mel looked at her expectantly, waiting as patiently as he was able for her to finish laughing before he proceded, saying, "Well, that's my first question." He then grinned widely.

Elberrin watched the young girl take the arm of the shorter, but much older (he noted) halfling. She walked away from the fire and was led off by Mel to sit next to a quieter one. Meanwhile at his fire some others had started dancing to the tune he had started, and other players were now continuing robustly. He was about to return to playing when he noticed Gage was standing at the edge of the firelight with a disgruntled look upon his face. He followed the line of his gaze and realized it was towards the very same fire Mel and Trinity just sat at.

To make matters worse, Gage, not aware of Elberrin's watchful eye, left the "party" fire and started walking towards the quiet one. Towards Mel and Trinity.

Meanwhile....

"I don't require any help Mel," Trinity said shyly as she watched herself moving around beachsand with her bare toes. "I just asked Amalia if we could be introduced."

She blushed and stopped talking, watching her toes wriggle in the sand.

At the end of his question he eyes snapped up from the ground to catch her eye. He smiled broadly at her.

"Yeah, I know Amallia," she said as she continued her dance. The tune Elberrin had started was a slow one, and the other players that had joined continued along with the ballad. Trinity was simply spinning in her peasant dress, slowly rotating around the fire.

She seemed about to say something else, but bit in her lip shyly.

Under the hem-line of her long dress, Mel noticed she had really cute small feet. A bit bare for his liking, but cute nevertheless.

"Ha!" Mel waved his hands in his best "aw, shucks" manner.

"I'm just kidding. Actually, Amallia and I were talking the other day and she suggested that perhaps I should meet (air quotes) her friend Trinity (end air quotes). I assumed that you must be her, but if you don't know Amallia..."

Mel left the incomplete question hanging, affording Trinity an opportunity to interject.

Trinity, continued dancing to the music by the fire, but looked over to Mel, a slight blush on her cheeks, "who is everyone?" she asked.
