Title: Certainty of death, small chance of success...
Post by: Griznuq on March 06, 2006, 11:43:30 AM
OOC: This discussion would take place between Belwar and Valen, perhaps over a beer at the tavern...

Belwar takes a deep gulp of his stout, wipes his mouth and saturated mustache on the back of his sleeve.

?So um still not quite sure what we?re going to do down at the valley.? Belwar lets a belch out.

?We got it before with little trouble, tis true, but there were a good many people who saw us, and next thing they know is that Dannobar is dead. Not to mention Melzak is running around. They?ve likely got our likenesses etched into the minds of all those savages! I know I would!?

Belwar takes another drink and interrupts as Valen?s mouth begins to open, ?Matter of fact, the last person to see Dannobar alive aside from us WAS Melzak. Surely someone else knew he was there. He couldn?t risk letting anyone think that he killed Dannobar? He?ll surely talk! Might have even been why he was not in the camp! Maybe he fled so as not to be implicated??

?I dunno? Maybe I?m wrong, but I don?t see things going very well down there.? Belwar shrugged, ?Then again, what else could we do??

"You have a point there Belwar, we can't simply go there and scout without being very cautious," Valen said, he put his hand to his chin and thought a few moments.

"What of the soldiers and mercenaries at this keep, could we use them if Captain Corris offered a score?" he asked more to himself then Belwar.

The humor was apparently lost on Belwar. "Why would dopb...dobbl.... do... those things pretend to be us? We're practically marked for death there... they'd be walking into their own death sentence... kind of the way we are... "

"Perhaps we could pass as Dopplegangers changed to look like ourselves? Seems to be a popular subject these past few days heh?!" Valen exclaimed with a hearty laugh and a blackslap for the dwarf.

"Well, the circle has worked for us in the past," Belwar said with another swig of stout. "But uh..." He shook his head a bit. "Whoa, I think someone spiked me beer... Hah! ahem... anyways..."

He began to slur ever so slightly. "They jus might've put out our deshcripshins through the ranksh. Letsh try shneakin in, and if we're found out..." Belwar shook his head.

"Ah that's better..." The alchohol seemed to have metabolized.

"If we're found out, we can always try the circle of squares then."

Valen seized on the opportunity.

"That sounds like a plan my dwarven friend. At least it is much easier than asking the gargon." He said with a smile.

"Do you think there is a way to sneak in there? Or will we have to rely on the Circle of Squares?"

"Well, we've already been in there, and we have a map of some of it, at least I believe Zurn does {right WF???}. I wonder if it's a 'officers' quarters so to speak. Perhaps it is connected t..." Belwar pauses a moment.

"Hey, you know... Why don't we pay another visit to the detention area? Maybe there's another prisoner from whom we can get directions and set free? ... This time someone else is givin up a weapon for him though..." Belwar fingered the empty weapon loop on his belt.

"Where the heck did those zombies come from anyway?" Valen asked without thought. More of his attention was on the makeshift map.

Before Belway could answer he interrupted. "Wait. Which tunnel are we going in? The one that we found Dannabar in?"

"I wasn't sure if you would have remembered that..." Belwar said surprisedly. "I didn't think it important, but it just may be. That was here," he said as he put another pebble down on the table near the one where they had found Dannobar.

We know that we can't come in through the tunnel as it's sealed. That also means that they cannot escape that way. I'd be interested to know what they are doing with that tunnel though... Wouldn't mind lighting a good oil fire just inside of it." Belwar let out a belly laugh.

Wiping an eye he chucked again and said, "At any rate... The way it seemed, we could have gone freely from tunnel to tunnel without much notice from anyone. I'm thinkin that as long as no one other than us comes out of the tunnel after we've gone it, it wouldn't be too suspicious."

Belwar scratched his beard and mumbled to himself, almost humming lowly. "I would like to know more about the tunnel in which we killed Dannobar. There must be more to see down there... those zombies didn't come in the same way we did, or everyone would have been alerted."

"It does... Belwar." Valen gave him a double take, making check of the racial note and reprimanding himself to not do it again.

"There are many tunnels that I think lead to sleeping areas, which one is the one we went in and heard snoring?"

"No matter," Belwar waved a hand in dismissal. "Let's say this table is the chasm."

Belwar placed a few coins on on the table to represent the large fires. A pebble to represent where they came in through the tunnel, and another , one was where they entered and found Dannobar.

"What was it Kor had said? That was the name of the prisoner, was it not? Korr, Karr... At any rate, he said that Magerth was not in this tunnel I believe. That sound familiar human?"

Valen, pleasantly surprised at this turn in Belwar's attitude, almost jumped up in excitement.

"As it so happens I do Master dwarf!" he exclaimed. He reached down to the floor where his backpack lay and procurred the items for him. Belwar noted that neither had the appearance of ever been used.

"Although I have no parchment." Valen stated, looking worried he may disarm the enthusiasm.

Belwar looks at the table a moment and begins to clear it. "What we need here is a plan... Perhaps the barmaid could get us some parchment... you must have an inkwell and a quill?" Belwar asked.

?Well, to b e honest, there?re only a few things that I want out of this life? One, is another beer??

?To be perfectly honest, I?d like to get my hands wrapped around the neck of Urguth, and from what we were told, he?s got something to with all of this, but more than that I?d like to live, and this doesn?t seem like a solid plan with that objective in mind.?

Bewar flags the bar tender down.

?My thought exactly, what else could we do? But more importantly my dwarven friend, what do you want to do? What do you want from this life??

Valen had not looked away from the mug that held the stout Belwar had bought him. He knew that all hope in success lay with Belwar?s decision, and couldn?t allow the uncertainty in his own eyes betray him.
