Sayer would have seen Maal and Dale to the door of Ashe's building, and from there Sayer would have returned to his quarters.  His report will be handwritten: one report for Julius, and one report for the Archduke of Kurr.  The difference between the two reports is how wording is used: Julius' report would be more military and matter-of-fact, while the Archduke's report would be more social.

Once Sayer completes this report, then he will clean himself.

Sayer would have washed up briefly at the stream.

If Sayer is the first to respond, then he would assure Jared that the bandits have been dealt with decidedly, omitting any details.  If Jared presses for details, Sayer would politely and diplomatically remind Jared that Julius should be the first to hear the full report.

Sayer's intentions for the day: back in Threshold, Sayer wants to *write* the report in his beautiful, flowing handwriting.   One copy will go to Julius, the other will go to the Archduke.  Once this task is done, then Sayer will take his time bathing.

Sayer would have consulted with Maccabeus before accompanying Dale and Maal on the road to town (primarily: are you coming back to town with us? If not, why not; when will we meet again).  He would also ask the group for the whereabouts of Ragnar [color=green:471638d354](I'm not clear if we were told by Ragnar that he was leaving ahead of us)[/color].

Along the walk back, Sayer's only words would be declaring his intention to write out a full, concise report for Julius, concentrating only on the facts from our investigation.  These two traveling associates are neither talkative nor social, and Sayer's counsel experience has taught him to chat only when it is welcomed.

When offered a ride back to town, Sayer is humble and gracious to the driver, and clambers awkwardly onto the back.  Sayer will evaluate the driver with a couple of simple, casual social questions, and based on the driver's responses, will either sit in silence, or talk with the driver until we reach town.

Sayer's keeps his conversation with Thurgin light and friendly, and tactfully redirects questions about himself or his business back to Thurgin.  When Thurgin asks about Sayer's origin, Sayer responds that he travelled long from Kerr [color=green:af9b90cd1d](is that where Sayer is from?)[/color], but quickly comments on the conditions of the roads and asks about if they've been muddy/dusty/overgrown/pocketed for a while -- how does Thurgin manage the cart on such roads?

As the conversation turns to the recent events concerning Kyle, Sayer will listen and guage the reaction of the others.  Are they comfortable discussing this?  Are they fearful?  Do they feel secure that the matter has been resolved?

Garbh?n arrives at the horse pen after returning from his duties.  The sun is low in the sky, and he has not had his evening meal.  After hopping the rail into the pen, he breaks from his normal routine of tending to all of the horses and seeks out his horse.  After locating her and saddling her, he leads the horse out through the gate pen.

"How about a bit of a work out, mm?"

Outside along the length of the pen, Garbh?n hangs a sack filled with sand from one of the rail posts.  He picks up his Horse Spear (some would call it a lance) and after mounting the horse, rides it down to the end of the pen.  He turns the horse around, pauses, and charges.  He holds the rein with one hand, the other hand holding the Spear so its blade points skyward.  As he rides, he drops the reins and draws his knees in to the animal, guiding the horse with his legs.  Both hands lift the Spear high above his head, the haft of the long Spear horizontal with the ground, the blade of the Spear pointing in the direction of his charge.

As the horse thunders by the sack of sand, Garbh?n stabs down with the Spear blade with a motion that resembles a man in a canoe bringing a paddle down to stab the water.  The Spear blade strikes, the haft of the Spear bends from the impact.  The haft of a normal spear may have snapped from such a blow, but the Horse Spear of the northern horsemen were crafted to bow and bend upon impact.  [Picture the pole of a pole vaulter bending as the vaulter launches himself...this is how I envisioned the Horse Spear looking when it strikes.]

Garbh?n continues to run his horse to the other length of the horse pen, holding the Spear with one hand, its blade once again pointing skyward.  He trots the horse back to the sand bag, expecting to see sand flowing from a hole in the bag.  Instead, Garbh?n notices a fresh nick on the fence post just above the sack.  Garbh?n looks at it for a moment, frowning thoughtfully.

"Let's try again, girl.  This time, don't run so fast."

Garbh?n stands hunched beside his horse, a chestnut mare with a black mane.  He faces the rear of the animal, with his mount's front foot trapped between his knees.  In one mud-crusted hand he holds a flat piece of wood (which looks like a wide tongue depressor), which he uses to scrape away mud from the horse's shoe.

Without looking up, Garbh?n replies "That horse's name is 'Oh, Lolly Her'.  'Tis a sylvan name, I suppose."  Garbh?n has mispronounced the elven word "Eu'lau'li'ir", which loosely translates to "Feet That Skip Over the Vines." He continues to talk while his attention is focused on digging mud from the horse's foot.  "His owner is a sylvan named 'Geyora' or 'Gyorya'.  He is stationed upwards along the tree line there," he says, slightly gesturing with his head to the cliffs.

Garbh?n grunts as he digs the last bit of mud from the horse's foot, and straightens up, keeping the foot tucked between his knees.  He turns slightly to see Erin standing before his horse.  "And I am quite serious about my words, lass," he adds somberly.  "If he takes the notion to his head, he will jump the rail and follow you."  He glances at the horse next to his, the one that Erin had just fed apple scraps.  "The bugger has hopped out twice last week, so I hear."

Garbh?n becomes motionless and for a long moment it appears that he is not going to answer Erin.  "Horses are my livelihood," he finally says in a soft, flat tone.  His eyes are no longer focused on the horse's hoof, but instead appear to be focused on a distant memory.  "I understand horses; I understand them more than I understand people."

He looks up at Erin, his expression stern.  Looking away, and without saying anything further, he turns his attention back to the horse's foot tucked between his legs and scrapes it with the wide, muddy stick.

Garbh?n finishes scraping at the hoof and sets it down.  "Well, there was no stone there this time," he says to the horse.  "Your gait was uneven, and I'm not convinced that I understand what it was that was troubling you, ol' girl."  He frowns thoughtfully at the horse.

Garbh?n (pronounced "GAHR-van") is a hard-looking man.  He has a weathered, brooding face with hard features.  He is soft-spoken, tending to taciturnity, and when he does speak, he uses plain and direct words with the accent of the northern plainsmen.

His black hair is short and closely cropped to his head, save for a short ponytail centered at the back of his head.  His large, black mustache covers his mouth.  His eyes are clear and sharp, and his glaring stare has been known to intimidate and unnerve opponents.  He is serious and humorless, often ignoring jokes and other displays of levity.

As a horseman, Garbh?n prefers to spend his time with horses, and most of his spare time is occupied with these animals.  As an animal handler, he is watchful of these horses, searching for any potential problems with the animals' ability to preform work.  He tends to be distrustful on the words of others when it comes to horses: if he is told that a horse is shoed properly, he will want to see each foot of that horse for himself.

I would advise revealing information that is related to and help drives the current story.  Telling us the history of a forgotten temple is swell and all, but if the player characters are not involved with this temple, or if the information does not helps advance the current story line, then why would we need to know about it?

As previously mentioned, I will share information with the players about the current actions of NPCs.  An extreme example of this was the recent episode of Kulgar where a captain of the city guard was trying to gather information about the player characters:

This is a playing style that Fraz, Johan and I are comfortable with, and I would like to think that it helps give a little depth to the current story.  Sometimes letting the players know that their characters are being hunted adds a little more drama and suspence to the game as well as to the ongoing story!
