Title: Laren's Nerves
Post by: Griznuq on September 17, 2005, 09:36:10 PM
After seeing what he thought was Jarmok turning into a wolf, Laren left the mine in a bit of a hurry, muttering all the way.

"...didn't sign up for this... exploding rats... furry guy... wolves..." Laren realized he was walking too fast to look casual, and slowed his pace. He looked around to see if anyone was watching. A couple people saw him, but looked away and appeared to think nothing of it.

As he continued to walk he muttered some more. "Knew I should have taken that position as a scout on that stupid ship. At this point I don't care where the island is. the further the better. Could have been a different world for all I care... shouldn't just stayed in bed... Gotta be something better to do around here... I gotta get out of this town.... Before I start to turn into some sort of animal. With my size I'd probably end up as some sort of game foul! Better yet, maybe I'll EXPLODE TOO!! Now I gotta deal with all that crap AND this STUPID EY..." He realized that he was yelling.

He looked up from the ground and realized that he had drawn a few glares. He spoke to the nearest face "uh, heh... eye uh, twich that is... Got a bit of a twitch."

Is that the best you could do?!? Laren scolded himself. A twitch!? you better hope your life never depends on that person, they'll think you better dead! Pull it together!

Finally Laren got to the stump. He shuffled over to the bar and climbed up onto a stool. A bubbling mug of amber caught his eye. It was sitting on the bar in front of the stool next to him, which happened to be empty. That fellow must be indesposed at the moment, Laren thought, reaching for the mug. The mug was back down on the bar in no time, with nothing in it but the smell of beer.

Laren looked around for Garret.

Garret falls down laughing, "Don't worry Laren...if I missed it wouldn't have hurt me a bit!"

Laren dropped the stool and recoiled, "Hey man! What are you thinking!? What if I dropped the stool!? There'd be fly guts all over the insides of my head!!"

Laren was visibly shaken.

As Laren was flipping a stool up to the table he hears a *whoosh* and feels the stool shake. He looks to the seat of the stool and sees a shuriken looking object sticking into it hook first.

Garret snickers and says, "That fly had been buggin' me all night. Now he won't be buggin' me no more...HEH!"

Looking closer, Laren sees that there was indeed a fly stuck to the stool by the hook of the large shuriken.

Laren nodded... He past the time there eating, drinking, drumming, and chatting. Slowly the patronage dwindled. Laren helped with the task of putting stools upside down on the bar and sweeping up a bit.

"Oh you've got your Dad's blo..." Garret stopped what he was saying and looked at the other patrons in the tavern. He lowers his voice and says quieter, "You've got your dad's bloodhook. I can teach you how to use it. Meet me and Eldan here after we close. We'll show you all about it..."

Garret flashed his bloodhook to Laren. On one of his fingers was the special razor ring of the Order of the Hawk.

And so now with Session 5 done enough to continue... I shall continue...

"At anyrate, " Laren continued with a clack of the spoons. "I need to learn how to use this 'hook' thingy... Any idea who can teach me?"

"That is sort of my point. I'm not just going to hand it to someone that I don't know because they said my father would. I don't feel that we have the luxury to be able to trust in that."

Laren drums on the bar top with a couple of spoons.

"Well, I'm not sure what I'd do in your situation. I suppose what ever I felt was right. Bottom line, It's your responsibility...like it or not."

"I'm not sure I want to pass it off. I'd rather see it go somewhere safe with my own eyes. When my father died, he told me to see it safe, and that's what I will do if I can."

Filling the mug...again, Garret responds, "I don't rightly know the answer to that. What I can tell you for certain is that I've been told that someone trustworthy will come to collect it before long. Beyond that I don't know any more than you do."

"Yeah, that's all pretty much what I figured." Laren finsihed the beer before Garret could put the pitcher down.

Wiping his mouth on his sleeve, Laren said, "Do you think Threshold is the best place for this thing? Why not bring it back to where it was in the first place?"

"Things exploding? That's weird. About Crimson...we got more information about her. She was actually a Hawk at one time but had a falling out of sorts. No one knew about this until...well, your Dad. She's very dangerous and no one knows how far her betrayal goes. She could have other contacts and allies in the The Order. So be very minful of who you talk to and don't mention anything about...it."

Garret fills Laren's mug with ale again. "If I know anything about your Dad...and I do...He most likely discovered what Crimson was about and tried to protect the thing and keep from her. He would never have given it to someone looking to do bad by it...rest assured."

"Well, all I know is I touched the bloody thing once and now everything is screwed up. Crimson tailing me, Dad's dead, things exploding, visions..." Laren looks up from the bar top.

"Not sure if I told you that. I think I might have only mentioned that part to Ashe...?"

"That could be. There's a lot of mystery around that thing. I'm not gonna get into it here but let's just say it was probably kept away for a reason. Who ever is after that thing...heh...no good is all I can say. Well, that fact is all too apparent."

"Yes, I did say explode... It all started a few days ago when we were fighting the ware rats. One bit into Jarmok's Leg, and the next thing you know, BOOM! It's in pieces all over the place. Now, Last night, the same thing happened to... to... whatever the hell it was that we were fighting." Laren finished his beer.

"I think it's the stupid eye..." Laren glanced around. "I don't know, I can't explain it, but I think it has something to do with you know what."

Garret says, "Well Analee has some good tabac. Some of which is grown in the fields down the road. She also has some from other places but you'll have...to..." Garret furrows his eyebrows quizzically, leans forward, and quietly says, "Uh...did you say explode?"

Laren stops quick, startled by Garret. The slowly spreading grin on Laren's face seemed to calm Garret slightly. Laren pulled from his pocket a small ivory pipe.

"was my fathers. I've been thinking of taking it up. Any idea where I can get some smoke?"

Laren's grin took up nearly his whole face.

"Oh, you don't think I was talking about... you silly halfling! I wouldn't pull that out here." Laren noticed he had drawn a couple looks, one being from a fellow who seemed to be confused at the empty glass in front of him. Laren lowered his voice a bit so only Garret could hear.

"I think I'm making thing explode."

Garret goes wide eyed, "Whoa! Don't take it out! You never know what...or who's around. I trust that you have it."

Laren pauses a moment. "No, actually... It's in my pocket." Laren reaches into his jacket pocket.

Garret grabs a mug and pulls a draft from a keg. He slides the mug to Laren and says, "So...so. I know how you must feel. I wish...Oh, I don't know what to say! Things like this are always so awkward for me. I feel like a clumsy ogre trying to balance on a log in the water! I suppose I don't have to say anything, eh?"

Garret fills another mug with an amber brew and empties it in one quenching pull. Letting out a burp big enough for both of them he says, "So where is it? Wait! It's probably better that I don't know. Did you hide it?"

"well if he does it to you again, I would suggest you find yourself a priest and have him turned!" Laren tried to look amused, but the mirth just wasn't there.

"Yes, I think a drink would do me well..."

Garret comes from out back and gasps with a start, "Oh jeeze Laren! you scared me! Your father used to do that to me...he'd laugh for hours after that! A trickster he was. Can you use a drink?"
