A SAFE HAVEN HISTORY LESSON (A teacher's telling at the Park of the New Beginning)

"In a time long past, a man could not sleep in the same place twice. He could not retrace the same steps or else fall to the evil tracking him. The world of old was anarchy and darkness. A place where death was the norm, and a smile was a stranger. The time of man was not yet known to this world."

The young teacher looked over her students while pausing for dramatic affect. 'Bless the First Years', she thought. For on this first day of school, the first lesson was her favorite, one in which the children were introduced to their history almost first hand.

"Out of this darkness stepped our Lord and Savior, Kaine. Our Administrator. An entity of Light that embraced Law tight to his Vest. Our Father had wandered the world for centuries, seeking an end to the evil of the world. But alas, there was no end. Years he waited until the last bead of his patience dropped from his brow.  That drop landed at the center of the fountain behind me, it was where he started a new beginning, our new beginning. It was there that he slept on the ground... twice."

And like clockwork a hand came up to ask the same question. This year it was from an adorable little girl with big eyes and a mop of brown hair that curled under her chin. The teacher intercepted, bending a little low and giving a kind smile,"No Molly, the fountain wasn't there then, so the drop landed on the ground."

To her credit Molly was not ashamed, and simply said "Oh, okay," and smiled. The teacher continued.

"Fighting off the ancestors of the Karh'thul, he claimed this very spot of land we now stand upon children, as his own. At first he could only protect the land under his knapsack. But each day that land grew in diameter by another footstep."

"Months passed, and the enemy's bloodshed stained the land for miles around. The beasts finally stopped coming, not daring to step on the blood of their own, they waited and watched at its edge. It was there Our Father first struck the Holy Flame and built the First Wall. Forever defining the land within as his own."

Molly, a brave little girl, shot her hand back up in the air. "Yes little one?" The teacher responded patiently.

"How did he strike the Holy Flame, did he find it? Where did it come from?" Molly asked, her eyes wide with wonder.

"All great questions Little Miss," to which the girl smiled.

"That is another tale and lesson for another day. But know that he did indeed bring it to life with his own purity."

"At the very heart of his hard won sanctuary, protected by the First Wall, Our Administrator built our beloved Spire," continued the teacher as she turned and face the Spire a hundred paces away and behind the fountain. "It is from this Spire, that decades ago, he transcended to his new battlefield in heaven, and that is yet another exciting story we will share." She said the last as she turned back to Molly and shared a smile.

"From the surrounding chaos of the world, our ancestors, humans barely surviving in the outlands stumbled upon SafeHaven as the Spire was under construction. Kaine, a benevolent and compassionate man, had welcomed them and helped each of them in turn build their homes. The heart of Our-Commons was formed. Yes my children, some of the homes around your very school only a few streets away are that old."

"Soon this township, (Our Commons) at the heartland of SafeHaven was formed. But the solace of simple rest was not enough for Kaine and our forefathers. They knew that if mankind were to survive, more would need to be done. So Kaine trained five of the strongest men of this handful of people. The people who had come to know him and love him as their Protector and Teacher. He trained the First Council of 5 in the art of War. Trained to destroy the Karh'thul." None of the children had a questioning look, or was phased by the hard words of history. Once again the teacher was not disappointed by the clearly good parenting skills of these fine soon-to-be-warrior-citizens sitting in a circle around her.

"As months went bye the men fought beyond the wall. When not fighting, they trained others in their art and soon the Council's Guardians came to power. As this a machine of death to all Karh'thul expanded the territory of Safe-Haven, Kaine in his wisdom kept our other ancestors building and growing the community. Each person was important, each new child a new hope for the future." She said looking around at her new hope, her wide-eyed students, all listening attentively.

"And as you know my young ones, they were very successful. Our Land now stretches a hundred miles, fifty miles from this fountain in all directions. From Pratt's Farm in the South, to Lookout Point in the North. From the Rocky Plain in the West to the Whisper Forest in the East. You and I, and all the people of Safe-Haven are now safe to live and be happy within the confines of the Outer Rim."
