Maal Brengain marches diligently towards the Thornhedge.

She is dripping wet, having just come from a morning swim in the Fogveil. As always, she carries her spears and shield with her, on alert and ready for anything that may suddenly transpire.

She proceeds to pass by Dale with only a slight nod in acknowledgement as she approaches the front door of the inn intending to grab a bite to eat and dry off by the warmth of the hearth...

OOC: I believe this is taking place on the morning of Duthash Zinnyas Fehy [May 8th] which is also the transition to the beginning of Episode 7: A Chamber of Horrors (and I've taken the liberty of adding that date to the beginning of Blackspear's original post, hope that's okay!). I suppose that Maal could be taking a morning swim before breakfast at the inn with Dale, Laren, and Ragnar. BTW, Maal's swims are not necessarily confined to the morning hours - she will take a dip at whatever time is most convenient. She is unpredictable that way... it's just her chaotic nature.

In Character Discussions / A walk along the beach
December 24, 2005, 12:13:19 AM
Erinalia looked down at the beach sand as they walked along. The smooth, fine sand beneath her bare feet reminded her of something... maybe even someone.

"Something happened to me too, T?Riad. Something real, yet.. not real. I cannot explain it. Nor can I fully recall the experience. It is on the edge of my memory, just out of reach of my mind?s eye. Yet, I feel... different now. I know that something happened to me and that it wasn?t just a dream or my imagination."

Erin looked up at the sky then and continued after a pause, "I can recall the sensations of flying... of being a bird! It was glorious! Yet, there was much more as well, T'Riad. This island... Jhegra... is alive somehow. It has a presence and I feel somehow that I am connected to it." A surge of unexpected images flooded her mind and she suddenly, instinctively,  covered her eyes with her hands. "I don't want to remember any more right now! It?s too much! It?s too much!" she cried out as she collapsed to her knees in the sand...

Erinalia let herself be helped up to her feet by T'Riad.  A few tears ran down her face making her rosy cheeks glisten in the sunlight.

"Th... thank you, T'Riad. I'm... I'm sorry," she stuttered as she wiped the tears away quickly with her hands. "You're a good friend," she then blurted out with a nervous and uncertain laugh.

After brushing some of the loose sand from her knees she composed herself and accepted the fruit from her friend. "It's all just very overwhelming," she stated as she continued walking along. "I wonder why we three ended up here and where Mel and Elberrin are. I hope that they are all right!"

"I have no idea how they met, but since their people are native to this land, there must be some interaction between their folk." Erin takes a bite from her banana as they walk along.

There is a long pause before Erinalia answers:

"I'm not at all sure of how I can suddenly speak these strange tongues. But it is so. I understand them completely and I can somehow respond fluently. It has something to do with this isle... As I said, I am somehow connected to it. I... I do not understand it, though, T'Riad."

Quote from: green:cc036c60a5OOC: This is one of those rare occasions that skills will actually come into play in an ICD. The use of Diplomacy or Intimidate checks in talking to the prisoner IS allowed. Use a die roll or a random number generator for the skill check. Inform me of the the die roll by either including it in the ICD, sending me a private message, or email.
Or, perhaps we should be covering this in-game during the next session? Yes? No? Maybe?

Sorry, I don't agree.  I think this is a bad idea, but it's your call, since you're the GM.

Maal Brengain approaches Maccabeus, walking stiffly. She pauses as they draw closer on the darkened road.

"I shall be fine, Maccabeus. Did all go well with Severen? I hope ye kept a close eye on 'im... I dunno wha' 'e was up to."

"Well, if Ashe had 'is way 'e'd have half th' Protect'rate slumberin' away... I'll no' be caught nappin' with th' others if'n there be another attack commin'!"

"I don' know what more ye can do fer me tha' Ashe hasn't tried... but yer welcome ta try it if'n ye like..."

After kneeling on one knee and receiving Maccabeus' ministrations, Maal Brengain rises to her full height again and leans casually upon her spear.

"Well, I had been on me way back ta find ye an' Severen. I'm... curious... about what he needed ta do. Removin' th' teeth ye say, an' destroyin' 'em, eh? Did ye see 'im destroy 'em? Wha' was it all aboot, do ye know?"

"Eh?  Dale?  He'll be fine... When 'e wakes up!" snorts Maal Brengain with a sneer. "When Ashe wants one ta rest an' 'eal, 'e serves ye a mug o' some kinda brew tha' puts ye inta a deep slumber. Knocks ye out as if a giant 'ad clobbered ye on th' 'ead! I was 'avin' none o' tha' this time! Kit is also in there sleepin' off 'er wounds from th' fight." The wildlander shakes her head, "She's a brave girl runnin' inta tha' battle. When I first met 'er I dinna think she 'ad tha' in 'er, but she's proved more than once tha' she can stand 'er ground with th' rest o' us when things get ugly."

"So, th' teeth grow inta new beasties, ye say?" Well, tha' is disturbin' news, indeed! We fought some o' those beasties in th' minin' caves south o' th' town, but we left 'em there, not knowin' any better. Some... thing... a winged serpent tha' Julius thinks is a Xanthakos spy, came in th' night an' took all o' th' teeth an' claws from th' carrion eaters an' dead folk in th' caves. I dinna unnerstand why it did tha'. Tha's why I wanna talk ta Severen now. I'm thinkin' tha' 'e may know a bit aboot it. Perhaps they are usin' th' teeth to hatch new beasties! This is very disturbin'!"

"I dinna mind if'n ye come along... Let's get going," Maal Brengain turns abruptly and begins striding towards the center of town.

After a few long steps she realizes that she will quickly outdistance her shorter, gnomish companion if she walks at her usual pace, so she purposely slows down and shortens her stride.

As they walk along, the Wildlander looks down at Maccabeus, "Ye almost sounded like a Wildlander back there, Maccabeus... 'Ave ye travelled in th' Wildlands yerself then?"

"I 'ave no problem with goin' inside," replies Maal Brengain. "As a matter o' fact, I've been wantin' ta see th' inside o' one o' these locked temples. 'E's th' first priest ta arrive 'ere an' unlock one, so I'm 'opin' 'e's inside there."

Maal approaches the front of the temple...
